MEDICAL AND EYESIGHT REQUIREMENTS

20.5M
Number Plate Distance

You must be able to read a number plate in good daylight from 20.5 metres away.

6/7.5
Minimum Vision Standard

The minimum standard for your better eye. Wear glasses or lenses if you need them, every time you drive.

45
Medical Exam Age

From this age you will need a DLM1 TAXI form completed by your GP, whether applying for the first time or renewing.

65
Annual Renewal Age

From this age, that medical form must be renewed by your GP every single year.

3 Things To Remember
  • If you need glasses or contact lenses to meet the standard, wear them every time you drive.
  • If you only have eyesight in one eye, you must declare this on your DLM1 TAXI form.
  • A lower standard may apply if you held a taxi licence before 1 January 1983.

CONDITIONS DVA REVIEWS CAREFULLY

Depending on severity, these conditions can affect whether a licence is granted. If any of this applies to you, it's worth discussing it with your GP before you apply.

    ⚠️
    If Your Health Changes

You must tell DVA immediately if your health changes after you're licensed, or if your GP advises you not to drive. Log into your DVA account and update your medical details as soon as possible.
